Among these, the Smart Nursing Home model — powered by the convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Transformation (DX) — is gaining significant attention. Much like the changing seasons, innovation is also beginning to transform care environments.
At Spacebank, we are accelerating the realization of Smart Nursing Homes with our own AI-driven solutions. In August, we launched a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) for “AI HumanCare” in partnership with the Geongang Nuri Uiwang Municipal Nursing Home in Gyeonggi Province.
By integrating AI with Internet of Things (IoT) technology, our proprietary AIoT Wright (HumanCare) solution — recently designated as an innovative product by the National Public Procurement Service of Republic of Korea — is being deployed free of charge. The system enables real-world validation of vital safety functions, such as monitoring residents’ respiration and heart rates and detecting falls. Spacebank is committed to ensuring that AI DX technology goes beyond automation, safeguarding lives while creating better care environments. Adding Warmth Through Advanced Technology |
The rise of the elderly population and single-person households is increasing the risk of solitary deaths and, elevating social concerns. This underscores the growing importance of local governments in strengthening social safety nets.
Beginning March 2026, Korea’s new Comprehensive Care Support Act will take effect, mandating integrated support for medical and long-term care. With care demand surging alongside workforce shortages, next-generation IT technologies are being recognized as viable solutions. Smart Care Services leverage AI, IoT, and other ICT technologies to regularly monitor at-risk individuals, identify welfare needs, prevent solitary deaths, and provide rapid crisis response. Local governments across Korea are quickly adopting AI-driven elderly care:
- Seoul Metropolitan City provides Smart Care Services to 44,923 high-risk households. Solutions include AI-powered check-in calls, smart plugs that detect irregular energy use, IoT-based monitoring apps, and AI speakers offering emotional support.
- Gyeonggi Province has rolled out services such as the “Always Easy AI Care” app for health monitoring, “AI Senior Guardian” for abuse prevention, and “AI Senior Companion” for daily check-in calls. Additionally, the Province is building AI Senior Care Towns that integrate digital care experiences, healthcare, and welfare services. AI-powered robots are also being introduced to assist with health checkups, medication management, and emergency response.

Smart Safety for the Elderly with AI and IoT |
The Korean government is actively promoting ICT-based long-term care policies and expanding smart care infrastructure. Technologies such as IoT sensors, AI monitoring platforms, and care robots are increasingly being deployed in nursing homes to reduce caregiver burden while enhancing resident safety. For instance, the Incheon’s 2nd Municipal Nursing Hospital has implemented AI radar sensors and IoT devices that allow non-contact monitoring of residents’ respiration and heart rates, while detecting falls and posture changes in real time. This provides continuous 24/7 monitoring, ensuring both safety and reduced staff workload.
Some facilities are also using care robots and AI platforms to automate meal distribution, mobility support, and emergency notifications — enhancing both efficiency and safety.
Key applications of Smart Nursing Homes include: - Patient Monitoring: 24/7 AI radar systems that monitor vital signs and deliver real-time updates to medical staff.
- Emotional Support: AI robots provide companionship, conversation, and interactive activities to reduce loneliness and depression.
- Safety Management: AI detects falls or bed exits and alerts caregivers or medical staff for immediate intervention.
- Daily Assistance: Care robots help residents with limited mobility carry out everyday activities.

In alignment with this trend, Spacebank began its AI HumanCare PoC in Uiwang City this August. By deploying AIoT Wright (HumanCare), we are enabling smart monitoring of residents’ respiration, heart rate, fall detection, and real-time safety alerts. With AI radar sensors, even subtle movements can be detected in a non-intrusive manner, ensuring both accuracy and privacy. Through this pilot projects, we aim to refine our solution based on real-world feedback and to establish a standard model for Smart Care services that can scale nationwide and beyond. For us, AI DX is not just about automation, but—it’s about protecting lives and ensuringcreating dignified care environments.
